Wednesday, May 27, 2009- Amazing Transformation....

I just wanted to post a recent photo of Musa....

Musa 3 weeks ago on arrival ................................Musa today

Musa came to Forever Angels only 3 weeks ago today....and just look at the difference in this little boy already!

It never ceases to amaze me how much resiliance and fight children have. On the brink of death and starvation and just a bit of love and some good food and he is now well on the road to recovery....and smiling lots!

Thank you to all my wonderful staff and volunteers for taking such great care of children like Musa. I truly believe that without Forever Angels - this little boy would not be alive today.

I would also like to say a big 'Thank you' and 'Goodbye' to Joya one of my Volunteers. Joya has been with us for 3 months and has been an amazing volunteer. She seemed to have a special bond with some of our most needy children - those who were sick and those with Special Needs and she was so loving and compassionate at all times.
Thank you Joya - we will all really miss you.

Friday, May 22, 2009- A BIG Container 'Thank you'

This is from my sister and Mum in the UK:

"Hi Everyone
We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that has been so so generous with the container that we are organising. As you can see from the photos, our houses are filling up and we are in the process of sorting and boxing and weighing and labelling...

Just today Mum and I went to St Lewis's school and were presented with some absolutely fantastic outdoor equipment. It is great that people have shown such consideration about what they are giving us and have really read Amy's 'Wish list'.
We are getting to the end of our collection so if you still have outdoor toys that we could use, this weekend is the last time that we accept them.

Dates for the diary... we have booked a storage room in Crewe from the 29th May for one week - so anyone willing to spend a few hours helping us move all the boxes over there would be most welcome.

The 'container' is coming on the 4th June - we have just three hours to load it - so ALL manpower would be greatly received on that day please.

Thanks again to absolutely everyone who has donated - we REALLY appreciate it and the children at Forever Angels certainly will.

Thursday, May 21, 2009- Where does the time go?!

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I wrote my diary! My youngest daughter Leila is keeping me on my toes and demanding lots of attention in the evenings when I would usually be working....maybe I should blame her!?

Joking apart - it is GREAT to have her back and today she kept her hearing aids in for 5 full hours which was brilliant!! She also said her first word ('Bye Bye') last week so I am thrilled with the progress she is making!

All is well at the Baby Home and there are no major dramas to report which is always nice.
The children just seem to grow up so fast though....here are a few photos for you:

This is Evie, Imani and Margaret all now sitting up and rolling around and almost ready for a transfer to the main Baby Home! I can remember having Margaret and Evie living in my house with me as they were so tiny and needed such intense care!

Evie weighed just 900 grammes when I first met her so it is such a delight to see this smiley, happy and perfectly healthy baby girl thriving so amazingly!

We also went to Tumaini Orphanage to visit Joseph and Mwita last week. It was SO lovely to see them again. They have made good friends and are happy and settled in their new home which is great.

Joseph and Meghan having a kiss!

Joseph and Mwita in their new bedroom.

Mwita and Tara having a hug.

We also went to Pascal's home to visit him and he is also doing fine. I do not think that he has any idea who I am anymore - which is great - as he is happy and settled back with his family - but I think he still enjoys the lollipops and gifts we bring every few months!!

And this is one of the first smiles we have got from our newest arrival - Musa. This little boy has had a very traumatic past, one which I will never know the true horrors of....but he still manages the occasional smile!

Thursday, May 07, 2009- Home again......

Well I am back home in Tanzania after a lovely, yet very busy, week with my family in the UK.

My youngest daughter, Leila, came back home to Mwanza with me - much to the delight of everyone here. My other daughter Molly is in her element with her 'baby' back and Leila copies everything that Molly does! They are very cute together.

Thank you SO much to my Mum and my brother and sisters for loving Leila and taking such good care of her while she was in England.....and I am sorry I have taken her away!
Leila is not going to have Cochlear Implants now - but we are going to see how much progress she makes with her hearing aids for a few months.

Ernest is now much better and - great news - Alfie is back to his old self! It is SO wonderful to see! He is laughing and giggling and walking and talking. It was the best welcome home present ever!

I was only back in the country an hour and we got a new child! Meghan went to pick him up whilst I was unpacking, and he is a very sad little thing.

Musa is about 3 or 4 years old. His Mother abandoned him and she is now in prison. Musa has been in hospital for the last 2 weeks with Malaria - but he also has sickle cell, severe malnutrition and is covered in scars from abuse. He reminds me a LOT of Mwita when he first came to us.

Thank you SO much to Meghan for doing such an amazing job at the Baby Home whilst I was away - she is amazing and a real star! Thank you honey.
